Over there it was the first time Kwok-Wai ever had bubble tea. In contrary, Goi grew up with bubble tea in Perth and has been addicted to it almost her whole life. From the start she wondered why there was no bubble tea in Belgium (2007). After 8 years of travelling around the world, the couple finally settled back in Kwok-Wai’s home city of Antwerp, Belgium in August 2014.
From there on, the old idea of opening a bubble tea store resurfaced and it didn’t take long before Bubble Bar was born.
And finally on the 8th of December 2014, Bubble Bar opened its first doors in Antwerp.
It brings a smile to our face when seeing somebody enjoy bubble tea as much as we do.
What is bubble tea?
Bubble Tea is a refreshing tea based drink that originated in Taiwan in the 1980s and has since successfully made its way across the world in Asia, Australia, USA. As usual it takes a bit longer before Europe picks up this amazing drink. Slowly but surely it is starting to enjoy more and more popularity around these areas.
Bubble Tea takes either the form of a fruity ice tea or a non-dairy ‘milkshake’ tea. The unique and attractive aspect of this drink is the topping which can be either a vast choice of flavoured Popping Bobas filled with pure fruit juice that burst in your mouth or jellies. Both are made out of sodium alginate and calcium lactose (essentially seaweed) and are therefore completely vegetarian.
Alternatively, Bubble Tea can be served with Tapioca pearls that are extremely yummy, chewy and are simultaneously a source of Iron, Calcium and Vitamin C. Tapioca is a starch extracted from the cassava root. The topping is sucked through an extra large straw and is a guarantee of a whole new experience.
With over 20 different flavours and large selection of toppings at Bubble Bar, there is always something to suit everyone’s taste!
